Craigellachie is an exceptional whisky, to the extent that it was described by the great whisky historian Alfred Barnard (1837-1918) as having ”A style seldom met” and it has retained that self same excellence until this very day, having been awarded the title of World’s finest single malt by the World Whiskies Awards, run by Whisky Magazine, in 2017.
What’s so surprising that, given its reputation and quality, Craigellachie is only probably still with us as a distinct brand because owners Dewars decided in 2004 to launch a distinct single malt product from four of their distilleries. Then there was another long (ten year) gap before another single malt appeared on the market.
The whisky has been intermittently produced, usually as part of a small bespoke orders from vendors, for well over a century. As such, Craigellachie stands out as connoisseurs’ whisky par excellence. It represents a solid investment as one of the world’s rarest, highest quality, most desirable and most coveted single malts.
